Nike Gear, for Less!

I am normally not an I-gotta-have-name-brand type of girl… Except when it comes to NIKE shoes. I seriously love Nike shoes. Always have, always will. LOVE ‘EM! The only thing I do not love about them is the price. WOOF. 

That being said, I really have to save my pennies to buy a new pair—well, any Nike gear 

for that matter. Further, when I want and need my Nike fix, I go to Kohls.

In the past, Kohls would allow you to use coupons on Nike gear, but that is no longer the case 😦 I tried to battle that once… I had a few Nike items with my 30% off coupon and was super stoked when I stepped up to the register. Then the cashier told me that Nike no longer allowed Kohls to accept coupons for their gear. My jaw dropped and I put up a hissy-fit (nicely)… I tried to make a statement by saying, “OK, well then I will have to pass on these few things…” the lady nicely took the items and said, “We really apologize about that….” and took the items from me. I am sure she saw the shock and disappointment in my eyes! Buuuuuttt…. Uhhh…. BUT I WAS BLUFFING! Don’t you hate that?? You seriously want to just walk out but that little voice inside of you is screaming at the top of her lungs that YOU WILL REGRET walking out and, if you decide to come back, those cute little items will be long gone and off in somebody else’s closet–probably posted on Pinterest and the next time you go to pin it you will regret not buying it when you had the chance. Sooooo… I had to create a new plan! And that, my friends, is how I discovered the clearance rack at Kohls 😉

Ok, so I will make a disclaimer that the clearance rack for athletic clothes is often small, but you can find some great Nike gear (or other brand items at a great price!). I usually call Kohls ahead of time and ask when they are going to be putting out their “Gold Star Clearnance items” (I am not entirely sure that is the official name, but if you say that they will most likely know what you are talking about). They usually have huge events throughout the year, where they purge the older styles (still new to me, right??!) and mark them down with these gold and red little stickers. The great thing, is most of the items are at least 50% off, sometimes more!

Check out these shorts for example… they were marked down to 80% off ($6.40), plus I got an additional 20% off. Now that my friends, is a SCORE! I can afford a pair of Nike shorts for $5.12 🙂 🙂 🙂 Not only that, but Kohls also gives “Kohls Cash” when you spend $50 or more, so you can stock up on that and get even more savings. BUT WAIT, THERE IS MORE :)… Sign up for their rewards program and you will earn additional points for rewards throughout the year, even a $10 voucher during your birthday month!

Oh, and some additional words of wisdom from this veteran Kohls shopper… DO NOT THROW OUT YOUR KOHLS CASH IF IT HAS EXPIRED!!! If you are off by a day or two (even a week or two late) go in and ask to use it! Most of the time they just have to get the nod from the manager and you are good to spend it my friend! One of my favorite things about Kohls Cash is that it doesn’t show on my bank account so hubby never knows that I spent it 🙂 Is that bad?? I promise I do buy him gifts from Kohls with it as well!

One more quick tip: You can also submit an application to be a Nike Product Tester! Say what?! Yes, it’s totally LEGIT. There are only three kickers: 1.) You can only choose Apparel OR Shoes (not both)… 2.) You cannot post pictures of the awesome Nike gear on any websites or social media (but who cares, right? You don’t need to impress people on there, just rock the gear and enjoy!) And 3.) You have to return the gear when they ask for it (remember, it’s for testing purposes, so they need your feedback and the gear to make improvements, if necessary).
